AGA Says Americans Will Wager $1.76 Billion on Super Bowl
The amount that Americans will bet on Super Bowl LX on February 8 is enormous, according to the American Gaming Association's (AGA) yearly prediction.
According to AGA, Americans will lawfully wager a record $1.76 billion on the New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. 6:30 p.m. EST is when the game starts. AGA projected $1.39 billion for Super Bowl LIX last year.
NFL Betting: Year’s Biggest Betting Event
“No single event brings fans together like the Super Bowl, and this record figure shows just how much Americans enjoy sports bettingas part of the experience,” said Bill Miller, AGA President and CEO. “By choosing legal, regulated sportsbooks, fans are having fun while supporting a safe and responsible market.”
The AGA also took advantage of the Super Bowl to publish a study that highlights the hazards that are allegedly present in sports event contracts that are offered on prediction markets such as Polymarket and Kalshi. An online survey completed by 523 sportsbook bettors and 503 active sports event contract bettors between December 16 and December 31 produced the research.
The AGA said the research shows that when sports betting is marketed as an investment consumers start to misunderstand both the nature of the activity and responsible gaming tools available to them.
AGA Takes Center Stage in Forecasting Markets
Since prediction markets function outside of sports betting legal frameworks, 78% of sports event contract bettors believe state authorities are there to assist them in resolving conflicts on the site, according to the report. Additionally, 3 times as many sports event bettors as sportsbook bettors frame their gambling as an investment (28% vs. 9% for sportsbook users).
Additionally, compared to 58% of bettors who place bets on licensed sportsbooks, 28% of sports event contract bettors stated that it was simple to locate responsible gambling options on their platform, according to the report.
By promoting equitable regulations and supporting licensed, regulated sportsbook operators, AGA enables them to prosper in a robust and reliable market.
Lines for Betting
According to Adrian Horton, Senior Director, North American Sports Trading, theScore Bet, there has been a lot of activity on the Seahawks betting front thus far in almost every market for the big game next weekend.
"Not just spread and moneyline, but at the top of all our TD scorer and player prop markets too,” he said. “Coming off of the conference championships, bettors are clearly backing Seattle to have a big day.”
As of right now, Seahawks (-4.5, opened -3.5) has 69% of bets and 74.7% of handle, Seahawks ML (-225) has 58.3% of bets and 64.1% of handle, and Under (45.5, opened 46.5) has 63.8% of bets and 40.1% of handle.
The situation is essentially the same at BetMGM, where the current ML is Patriots +195, Seahawks -235. The spread right now is Pats +4.5, Seahawks -4.5.
“In the biggest event of the year, bettors are pulling for the Seahawks while the book hopes for a low scoring affair with minimal touchdowns,” said Christian Cipollini, Trading Manager. “Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Seattle’s Defense/Special Teams finding paydirt have become bad results for the book right now. While there’s still some time before the game, it looks like the game and futures market will be rewarding to bettors if the Seahawks cover the game and win outright.”
